You can now set Amazon’s Alexa as your default voice assistant on Android

Amazon's Alexa can now be configured as its default personal assistant on Android phones and can be accessed by holding down the home button, as a Reddit user pointed out. Previously, you could only change Microsoft's Cortana as the default voice assistant on Android devices.

The configuration of Alexa in Android will vary depending on the device you have, but the general essence is that you update the Alexa application, then go to your phone's configuration in the "Application Help" category and change your selection.

The functionality of Alexa on Android is still quite limited. Alexa can not extract maps or make native calls, although you can do a quick search on Google. There are also fewer options for invoking Alexa than for the Google Assistant: you can not activate Alexa by saying your name or by pressing your phone.

Reddit users confirmed that they saw the new option to add Alexa as the default assistant on their devices Google Pixel 2, One Plus 5, One Plus One, Xperia, Moto G5 Plus, Essential Phone 1, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S9.
