Xbox keyboard and mouse support is close, but depends on devs

Microsoft's Xbox One consoles should soon receive support for keyboards and mice, according to a tweet by Mike Ybarra corporate vice president of Xbox and Microsoft, and corroborated by an Xbox blog post.

The blog post explained that Xbox Insiders will have access to the functionality in the coming weeks, with Warframe as one of the first compatible titles.

An exact date was not confirmed in any of the cases, but you can expect more information will arrive on November 10.

In the past, when Microsoft published these ideas, many players have expressed concern about the advantages that keyboard and mouse players will have over players using drivers. While this is still a matter of concern, Ybarra suggests that managing justice in multiplayer games will be up to the developers and Microsoft will not impose any general rule in this respect.

Establishing the basic rules for keyboards and mice

Developers I have already been dealing with this kind of thing on the PC, since some games allow auto-aiming when a controller input is detected, but disable it for the keyboard and mouse. Developers can go even further for Xbox games, with options for pairing based on input methods. Some matches may only be for players who use controllers, others for keyboard and mouse players, and some for mixed groups.

In addition to that, Microsoft leaves totally in the hands of the developers if the keyboards and the mice are compatible. Some games may be left out completely.

While some players will surely remain unconditionally opposed to keyboard and mouse support on the Xbox, others coming from a PC gaming environment will probably be happy to have precise control of a mouse in their games. This will also probably be a blessing for peripheral manufacturers, as the best gaming keyboards and the best gaming mice will have a completely new customer base.
