The second season of Westworld began two weeks ago, but HBO seems to be happy with what has been seen so far. The chain has just announced that it has chosen the series for its third season.
Created by the producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and inspired by the 1973 film Michael Crichton of the same name, Westworld tells the story of a futuristic theme park populated by intelligent robots called "hosts". The park allows visitors to visit their fantasies of the far west, generally embracing the most basic aspects of human nature. In the course of the first season of the program, certain presenters began to develop self-awareness, causing numerous problems with park operations, until things finally got out of control just when the co-founder of the park, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) ready to retire.
So far, the second season of the program has been looking at the ramifications of the resulting robot rebellion, with hosts like Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandie Newton) against the park. The new season has also hinted at a larger canvas, with up to six different parks mentioned at the premiere of the season, and Shogun World Park hopes to play an important role this season. The second year of the series has also continued to adopt the fractured non-linear narrative style that has become a hallmark of the series.
The other characteristic element of Westworld is the game's focus on riddles, surprises and games-changing reveals. So far, the second season seems to interpret his narrative in a more direct way than the debut season, but that will probably end up being his own form of disorientation during the next eight episodes. For fans, knowing that a new season of the program will come will undoubtedly make the tracks, clues and mysteries of the show even more promising. Even if a plot hook does not work this year, it could do so in the next season.
