What's the story?

This week on SmackDown Live, general manager Paige announced that AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura's match in Backlash would now be a match without disqualification.

In case you did not know …

Nakamura and Styles have been fighting since the Japanese star announced that he would challenge Styles for the WWE Championship following his victory at Royal Rumble. The duo went from being friends earlier this year to now being bitter enemies after Styles managed to beat his old friend at WrestleMania and Nakamura, then low-powered AJ and turn around for the first time.

In recent weeks, Nakamura has been developing a new character and it looked like he could finally regain the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia last Friday, but the match ended in a count and the duo fought after the bell.

The heart of the matter

Nakamura has another chance at the WWE Championship this Sunday at Backlash, but due to the end of their encounter at The Greatest Royal Rumble, the duo will now face off in a non-disqualifying bout to make sure that there is a definite winner regardless of Nakamura's tactics.

What's next?

This additional stipulation could be exactly what Nakamura needs to overcome AJ Styles and lift the WWE Championship for the first time.

The dispute between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura has been one of the most interesting on SmackDown Live in recent months and since Backlash lacks that hook that will attract viewers to the first pay per view of the new era, this could be the one that steals the show.

This could also be Nakamura's last chance in the Championship and his best chance with the eliminated rules.
