Reliance Jio in talks with Qualcomm for laptops with 4G connectivity

Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio is in talks with chipmaker Qualcomm to launch a 4G connectivity laptop in India. These laptops probably point to the budget segment and if they are launched with 4G connectivity, they could have a significant impact on the laptops segment in the Indian market.

After interrupting the Indian telecommunications market with its highly competitive plans, Reliance Jio now seeks to venture into the field of laptops and offer bundled 4G services to improve their average revenue per user. Previously, the company had launched the JioPhone, a 4G VoLTE phone with a price of Rs. 1,500.

Miguel Nunes, Senior Director of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, told ET that Qualcomm is working with Reliance Jio on this project. He said, "We've talked to Jio, they could take the device and package it with data and content."

Reportedly, laptops will run on Windows 10 and come with Qualcomm chipsets. Qualcomm is already working with other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Asus, Lenovo and HP to launch PC with permanent connection. HP and Asus have also released Snapdragon 845 powered devices.

In addition, service providers such as Verizon, Sprint, AT & T and other EE operators. The United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and France are also helping the chip maker in this project.

Qualcomm is currently working with Reliance Jio on the company's 4G feature phone. 4G laptops powered by Qualcomm from Reliance Jio can come with Jio's suite of applications, allowing users to watch movies, listen to music and use other Jio applications for free.
