Microsoft is now a top five PC maker in the US thanks to Surface sales

Driven by surface devices, Microsoft has been # 5 in the US PC market according to Gartner's latest statistics.

Microsoft recorded 4.1 percent of its US market share (602,000 units shipped), showing solid growth of 1.9 percent over the same period last year, according to figures for the third quarter of 2018. If you think that the whole US market has fallen by 0.4% from the third quarter of 2017, it is certainly solid.

Microsoft ranks fifth in PC vendor rankings, and Apple ranks fourth. We can secure 13.7% market share in the future. Lenovo ranked third (15.4%) and Dell (25.9%) was the highest with 30.7%.

In other words, Microsoft is ahead of Acer and Asus in the US, though not globally. Gartner's global market share was highest at 23.6 percent for Lenovo, 21.8 percent for HP and 16 percent for Dell. Apple ranks fourth with 7.3% and has experienced a significant growth of 8.5% over the same month last year.

Mac Misery

As you saw yesterday, you can see that Apple's results are consistent with IDC's estimates. Mac sales have fallen much more, to 11.6%. There may be people who do not purchase Apple computers in anticipation of a hardware refresh in late October.

Acer returns to global leader Gartner's fifth place. 6.1%, and Asus 6.0%. Microsoft does not come close here, but the strangest thing is quite interesting, knowing that we can catch up with two US vendors.

Surface hardware clearly shows empowering Microsoft's home. A new surface device clutch, including Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2, will not be hurt by the recent launch.

Gartner's US statistics do not include Chromebooks (or indeed iPads), but Microsoft's Hybrid Surface devices have debated how good the Surface Pro 6 upgrade was. These are the analyst firm's PC definitions when collecting statistics.

Gartner, however, has confirmed that Chromebooks continue to sell well to educational institutions in the United States and actually experience double digit growth. It is very impressive.
