While Memorial Day commemorates fallen military men and women, it has also symbolically marked the beginning of summer. Related, it's also one of the biggest shopping weekends, with Memorial Day sales being some of the most popular retail events of the year. As in other great shopping days, you will see almost everything that is sold, from clothes to appliances and everything else.
When it comes to consumer technology, the best deals will be on older models as stores begin to make a concerted effort to clean old stocks in time for winter holidays. If you do not mind the televisions or laptops of last year, you can get a good score.
The best offers, however, will be in appliances, specifically things for the kitchen. It is the best time of the year to buy a new refrigerator, as well as small appliances. Department stores and home improvement stores like Home Depot, which got discounts of up to 50% last year, will offer some of the best weekend prices.
When will the Memorial Day sales begin?
This year Memorial Day falls on May 28, but that does not mean you'll have to wait until you buy Memorial Day sales. Unlike Black Friday, the stores will announce their days of offers, if not weeks, before the actual holidays. The holiday weekend begins two days before May 26, but judging from past years, we can see that Memorial Day sales begin as of the second week of May.

Home Depot
As mentioned, last year we saw Home Depot offer discounts up to 50% off. Look for appliances such as refrigerators and small kitchen appliances that will be discounted, as well as patio furniture and other items to prepare for the summer.
Sears
Like Home Depot, Sears is expected to cut prices in half, specifically in large appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and dryers, as well as clothing and other items.
Walmart
Like other department stores, Walmart will discount large items such as appliances and mattresses, as well as smaller products such as appliances and clothing of kitchen. It is also a good time to buy an air conditioner or a mattress.
Macy's
Macy's is another department store that will offer discounts of up to 50% off. Look for especially good deals on appliances, but the store usually has discounts in all areas. Be sure to be aware of the coupon codes to use on everything from clothing to household items.
Kmart
You can expect general sale prices at Kmart on Memorial Day, but the best deals will be on electronics. Last year, we saw that the store offers discounts of up to 34% on items such as headphones, Blu-Ray players and HDTVs.
Sur la Table
As you would expect, you will only see the selling prices for kitchen items in Sur La Table, since that is what they sell. But those prices are going to be great, with small devices with up to 75% discount!
Office Depot and Office Max
You may not expect a retailer specializing in office supplies to have a Memorial Day sale, but Office Depot & Office Max will offer discounts on a variety of products. The main one of those sale prices will be the offers of computers, with prices on laptops and desktops cut by up to 40%.
Amazon
Last but not least, it is very likely that Amazon will do something great for Memorial Day. In general, they do not have a sale on the entire site, but in recent years they have offered discounts on televisions, as well as furniture and tools.
