MacBook Pro Owners Demand Recall Over Failing Keyboards

Apple used the marketing slogan, "It just works," and now that slogan comes back to haunt them, thanks to a bunch of very frustrated MacBook Pro owners.

An online petition that has attracted more than 3,500 signatures requires the company to "remember every MacBook Pro released since the end of 2016, and replace the keyboards in all of them with redesigned keyboards that work."

MacBook Pro titles headlines on failed keyboards [19659002] Why is that? "Because," the request continues, "these keyboards do not work." Yes, a Change.org petition is the latest sign that Apple's current MacBook Pro keys are failing at an alarming rate, which makes the laptop a dubious purchase, especially when they start at $ 1,299 and can cost up to $ 2,799.

Specifically, certain keys on MacBook Pro 2016 and 2017 tend to stop working, and many blame the design of the butterfly switch on each key. The musician Jonathan Mann turned this dilemma into a song "I'm pressing the space bar and nothing is happening", in which that happens.

Key failures occur, sometimes, when the dust particles are lodged under the keys, which makes it impossible to function. Apple provides instructions to try to fix this, which include holding the laptop at 75 degrees and spraying the keys with compressed air, but that should not be a normal part of your life. What happens if you are on the road and this happens? Are you supposed to look for a can of compressed air?

Apple blogger John Gruber is also quoted in the petition, and says "this keyboard has to be one of the biggest design mistakes in Apple's history."

Yesterday, during a company-wide meeting, I saw one of my colleagues holding a MacBook Pro in the air and trying to blow into the space bar. As I quickly hit the space bar for about 5 or 10 minutes, I worried about my personal MacBook Pro.

My MacBook 2012 features keys that have more traditional switches, and this laptop has been my favorite piece of technology. "I've had it sometime, partly because it just works.Fortunately, Apple will discover this keyboard conundrum soon, but until then , I will remind you that Apple still sells that model (it is the latest model in the 15-inch MacBook Pro list), which comfortably, without any problem, I wrote this article in.
