MacBook Pro Keyboards Are Failing at an Alarming Rate

The data comes from Apple Insider which says it was collected in a variety of Apple Genius Bars in the United States and authorized repair shops for Apple.

The data shows a failure rate of 11.8 percent for the keyboard in MacBook Pro 2016, or 165 numbers of 1402. That rate for 2015 was only 6 percent. The 2015 model had a similar failure rate of 5.6 percent.

2017 looks a bit better for the second generation Butterfly keyboard of the MacBook Pro, but not by much, and Apple Insider notes that it does not include a full year of data. Displays 8.1 percent of service events related to the keyboard.

According to my own experience with the 2016 model, I can see why there are as many complaints as there are problems. Sometimes, the keystrokes are not recorded on the first attempt, which forces me to hit the keys more strongly. However, I never felt that I needed to repair my laptop.

Unfortunately, keyboard repair of the MacBook Pro is expensive, as Apple Insider notes that costs can be up to $ 700 out of warranty.
