HBO and Sky are launching a new documentary series about Adnan Syed

HBO and Sky have announced that they are releasing a new documentary series called The Case Against Adnan Syed directed by Academy Award nominee Amy Berg. Adnan Syed was convicted in 2000 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, high school student Hae Min Lee, 18. The four-hour series has been in production since 2015, and will provide another detailed analysis of the events before and after Lee's disappearance and assassination. The case captured the world's attention after the highly successful podcast Serial delved into Lee's life and into the court case and Syed's subsequent conviction.

After Serial, Syed initially received a new trial in 2016, and the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland decided that it would maintain that ruling earlier this year, paving the way for Syed's new trial .

According to HBO, the series will present "new discoveries and revelations that challenge the state's case".

With exclusive access to Syed, the defense team, the Syed family, friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed, and members of Baltimore City Law Enforcement, the series shows how the rush to Justice and Syed's condemnation in 2000 raised more questions than answers about what happened to Hae Min Lee, underlining the instability of the memory and the eyewitnesses in conflict.
