Google Duo v37 may be adding "pause" to video chats and rewards for referring friends [APK Teardown]

A new version of Google Duo began to be implemented today. It does not appear that new features have appeared with this update, nor does it seem to restore the screen sharing feature that was briefly enabled a couple of months ago. However, there are some new things to look forward to in the future, including what is probably a pause button for video chats and a reward system to invite friends to use Duo.

Disassembly

Disclaimer: Dismantlements are based on evidence found within the apk (Android application package) and are necessarily speculative and are generally based on incomplete information. It is possible that the assumptions made here are erroneous or inaccurate. Even when the predictions are correct, there is always the possibility that the products change or cancel. Like the rumors, nothing is certain until it has been officially announced and published.

The features described below are probably not yet live, or can only be live for a small percentage of users. Unless stated otherwise, do not expect to see these features if you install the apk. All screenshots and images are true unless otherwise indicated, and the images are only modified to delete personal information.

Pause video

Whether you're in a video chat or just keep the sound, Duo offers a button that can be used to mute your audio. It's there because there may be times when you do not want to end a call, but You may have to respond quickly to something else in private.

The same thing can happen with the video. Sure, you can cover the camera's lens easily enough, but that may not be convenient if you're moving or you need both hands. But now it seems that Duo can add a "pause" function for video chats.

< string name = " video_paused_with_username " [19659010]> Video% s is deactivated </ string >
< string name = [19659010] " video_paused_open_duo_message " > They can open Duo to turn on video </ string >

Two new lines have been added that should appear when the other side of a call has deactivated its video. The first simply states that the video transmission is disabled, while the second is effectively an instruction for conversations that can tell the other person in a conversation that Duo has to open to re-enable the video. Judging from a new design called video_paused_full_screen_ui.xml the other end of the call will include only the profile picture of the person and the two previous messages, along with a small video camera icon.

So far, there is no change in the design of the control, but it seems safe to assume that the button to stop the video will be placed next to the mute button.

Rewards by reference [19659005] Google really should want to attract more users with Duo, because it seems that we are about to see an even more aggressive marketing impulse. The new chains clearly explain a reward program designed to invite your friends to use Duo.

< string name = " rewards_invite_friends_hint_data " [19659010]> Free% s when friends join </ string >
< string name = " rewards_invitor_redeem_header " > ]Congratulations! Obtained% s </ string >
< string name = " rewards_invitor_redeem_body_text_cash " > As a thank you for bringing% 1 $ sa Duo, you get% 2 $ s! Touch "% 3 $ s" to redeem. </ string >
< string name = " rewards_redeem_button " > NEXT </ string >

There are placeholders for specific rewards, so I can not say with certainty what those rewards will be. Although the generic icon of the gift card was added, that would make a lot of sense. It would not be terribly expensive for Google to give away a few dollars worth of gift cards to Google Play, but it could be a good incentive for people to start video chatting more often. But this is just an educated guess, there is nothing too true about it.

The requirements for the program are also not included in the list. We can probably expect to see Google asking people to participate in a brief chat session or to perform enough activities to show that the application was not only installed and was quickly abandoned after receiving the invitation. In that case, the text does not clearly indicate that it will use the same invitation system or if additional changes will be made, but it is likely that we will listen to it as soon as possible.

Download

The APK is signed by Google and updates your existing application. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Instead of waiting for Google to download this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it like any other APK.
