Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox for iOS, with improved security for daily navigation and new practical features for iPad owners.
Websites use crawlers to monitor you as you move around the web, building a profile of you that's valuable to advertisers, and also to malicious parties. Firefox for iOS has long been offering tracking protection in its private browsing mode, and is now enabled by default for regular browsing also in Firefox for iOS 11.
If you do not mind sharing your data with a particular site , you can turn off tracking protection with a touch of a button.
It's an obstacle, in a good way
The updated browser also offers new drag-and-drop features for iPad owners. If your tabs are in disarray, you can now rearrange them by tapping the tab icon, then pressing a tab and dragging it to the left or to the right.
It's also easier to share links, thanks to the ability to drag URLs from Firefox to other applications. Just hold a tab and then drag it to where you want it: an email, a tweet, a Facebook message or any other site you want. It is not necessary to spend years cutting and hitting.
There are also new keyboard shortcuts to make browsing easier for iPad users, many of which will recognize from the desktop browser.
The tray of tabs has had an impulse too. Now you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Option + Tab to toggle the tray and manage your tabs, selecting them, closing them or displaying them. It is also possible to switch to a tray that contains your private tabs.
It's been a busy few months for Mozilla since the release of Firefox Quantum in November. Now it focuses on bringing desktop browser functions to mobile devices, as well as improving security, so we are looking for more updates in the near future.
