Most dogs understand "the deal". They sit, stay and do tricks in the hope of receiving a gift in exchange for their dog antics. This puppy from the school yard does not seem to have time for these pranks, and instead chooses a more humane way of trading.
The dog, called Negro (the word for black color in Spanish), lives on the campus of the Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare in Colombia. The faculty of the school provides the K9 with food, water, shelter and love. In return, he monitors things on campus while staff and students conduct their day.
Gladys Barreto, a former employee of the store on campus, said The Dodo: "She's very smart." The store workers had a firsthand impression of this in Black days at school. They noticed that he became very observant of the students who buy cookies. He was even more intrigued when the children gave him the cookies.
"I would go to the store and see the children give money and get something in return," said teacher Angela García Bernal The Dodo . Something bright clicked on Black's head; He would have to bring something to the store employees the next time he wanted a gift. "One day, spontaneously, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting me know he wanted a cookie," Bernal said. The workers in the store entertained the adorable trick of the dog, and the rest is history.
Black now makes daily stops at the store with his chosen currency, which is always accepted, of course. The staff makes sure your personal treats are safe and made for dogs. Being that the "money" of the blacks literally grows in the trees, it tends to go a little overboard, so the staff limits it to a couple of goodies per day.
Black is absolutely adored at school and puts smiles on faces every day. "When you see it for the first time, you almost want to cry," Bernal said. "He has found a way to make himself understood."
