Artist Imagines Disney Princesses On 1940’s Mystery Novel Covers, And The Result Is Badass

You're used to seeing Disney princesses with pretty dresses in fairies far away. However, thanks to Astor Alexander, an independent illustrator from San Diego, California, you are about to discover that these fictional women look wonderful in a completely different environment, too. An impressive series of illustrations with a pretty self-explanatory title. It is characterized – you guessed it! – Disney princesses as badass noir characters. It is a genre of "elegant" crime, which emphasizes cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. The protagonists of the black fiction are generally self-destructive and deal with legal, political or other corrupt systems. Their stories often also lead to loss-loss situations.

Astor has perfectly captured the aesthetics and atmosphere of the genre, while retaining the different personalities of the princesses. Scroll down to meet them and tell us what you think in the comments.
