Amazon sells record number of turkeys

Year after year, Amazon boasts of selling more things than ever, and now the company has added turkey sales to its leaderboard. In a letter to shareholders, CEO Jeff Bezos celebrated the milestone made possible by his acquisition of Whole Foods. "Our exclusive promotion for Prime members broke Whole Foods' all-time record on turkeys sold during the Thanksgiving season," Bezos wrote.

According to Amazon's tradition of congratulating itself on vaguely defined excellence, Bezos did not say exactly how many turkeys were sold. He also declined to say how many fire TVs, Kindle and Amazon devices sold, but noted that 2017 was also the "best year for the sale of hardware."

Amazon published a useful statistic today: in 2017, the company reached 100 million Prime subscribers. Perhaps in a decade we discovered exactly how many birds were slaughtered to feed Prime's relentless hunger.
