An autonomous vehicle operated by Waymo was involved in an accident in Chandler, Arizona, on Friday afternoon, according to local news stations. The images from the scene of the accident showed a Waymo minivan with its sunken side and another vehicle with a broken front. There were minor injuries reported on the scene.
Chandler police said that the Waymo truck was in stand-alone mode with an occupant at the wheel at the time of the crash, but that it was not the "infringing vehicle," according to ABC 15 News. A spokesperson for the Chandler and Waymo Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In March, a self-taught Uber vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian, the first known victim of a crash that involved a car without a driver.
