Schalke suspended Max Meyer for the rest of the season after the midfielder criticized the club's hierarchy in an "unauthorized" interview.

The club statement also included details of the collapse of the relationship between Schalke and Meyer, who can go for nothing once the contract runs out.
"Neither sports director Christian Heidel nor coach Domenico Tedesco asked Max Meyer to find a new club after the expiration of his current agreement on July 1, 2017," the statement continued.
"It is true that head coach Tedesco made an evaluation with the players before the start of the season with respect to his perspective.
" He stated that Max Meyer's prospects in an attack role could be more limited but, as a result of his performances in training, Meyer received a new role as a regular in the celebration of the midfield. Meyer has appeared in 28 of Schalke's 37 games this season and 66 of the 87 possible since the summer of 2016.
"Last Wednesday, Max Meyer had to quit training early because of a foot injury but he refused an MRI exam, he did not train with the team since then, he was not available for the match against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend. "
Schalke sits second in the table with two games – away from Augsburg and at home against Eintracht Frankfurt – staying in the season.
