HTC has introduced the Desire 12 and 12 Plus, two phones that offer the new 18: 9 screen format at a lower cost.
The Desire 12 has a 5.5-inch screen with less bezel around, and offers a single 13MP sensor on the back of the phone, with an aperture sensor f / 2.2.
It has 2 GB of RAM with 16 GB of internal storage, or 3 GB if it uses the 32 GB capacity, and both variants are capable of handling micro SD cards up to 2TB.
Inside, there's a quad-core Mediatek CPU, which suggests a lower cost for the phone, as does the fact that the HTC Desire 12's screen is just a 5.5-inch HD panel.
That means a resolution of 720 x 1440, and it's a far cry from the QHD of the high-end Samsung Galaxy S9, for example.
The HTC Desire 12 Plus increases things a bit, and will clearly be the more expensive of the two, although it has the same lower resolution.
The main change is towards the camera on the back of the phone, with the 13MP sensor attached by a 2MP option, designed to give some blurry background bokeh effects.
It's a clue to the past here, where HTC was one of the first brands to offer dual sensors on the market, with the HTC One M8 offering the same depth perception.
The retro turn does not stop there in these phones, since both will have an acrylic glass back similar to the HTC U11, but they do not use the same Liquid Glass technique that made those phones look so impressive.
The HTC Desire 12+ also runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 CPU under the hood, with a little more grunt that feeds into the handset. If that's the reason why the Desire 12 Plus is running Android Oreo and the smaller Desire 12, an unknown version of Android remains to be seen.
HTC has the price of the Desire 12 in AED 729 while the Desire 12+ will go for AED 899. Both phones will start arriving in retail stores in the first week of May. Color options include Cool Black and Warm Silver and a new Royal Gold color never before seen on an HTC device, although that will be revealed later.
Both phones will come equipped with HTC Sense decent software, which brings a more professional and premium mix experience, combined with the strongest construction quality we still expect from the brand.
