Amazon has introduced a new portal that offers home security services, as reported by TechCrunch . The portal offers a variety of intelligent security packages that include elements such as input sensors, sirens and a video bell, all installed by Amazon employees and offered without a monthly contract.
There are five different levels to choose from. The cheapest one sells for $ 240 and is designed to create the illusion that you're at home, with several motion detection lights, intelligent interior lighting and a waterproof wireless speaker. At the other end of the spectrum, the most expensive option costs $ 840 and comes with elements such as an intelligent flood and leak sensor, a Wink concentrator, input sensors and a buzzer. All packages include an Amazon Echo Dot and two visits from an expert in an Amazon smart home: one to identify what their needs are, and a second to install and configure all devices.
Amazon's foray into providing security packages for the home is not a complete surprise. Amazon introduced its own Geek Squad version of Best Buy last year to offer free Alexa consultations and facilities for smart home products such as Ecobee thermostats and Arlo security cameras. Last December, Amazon acquired the battery-connected camera and the start of the Blink ring, and just a few months ago, it also agreed to acquire the smart home company Ring for more than a billion dollars.
These security packages offered by Amazon naturally include products from your portfolio (such as Ring and Echo) and open up the possibility of hiring even more people to services such as Amazon Key, which allows emails to unlock the front door to place packages inside your home.
According to the reviews, it seems that Amazon has been offering these services for a few months, but it is not clear in which markets it is really available, or if there are plans for a nationwide deployment.
