Microsoft shook the world when it introduced its first desktop computer at the end of 2016 with Surface Studio, but two years later we're drooling once again at the prospect of the sequel.
Just think about it – a Surface Studio with more powerful components, a sharper screen and the latest in wireless technology: Surface Studio 2 could be the perfect opponent for the ever-changing Apple iMac line.
Unfortunately, we have seen little or no solid information, leaks or rumors about Surface Studio 2, but at least we have heard that Microsoft is working on it. So, with that small amount of information, let's delve into the possibilities of Surface Studio 2.
Cut to the chase
- What is it? Surface Studio's future desktop
- When is Possibly between September and November 2018
- How much will it cost? Probably as much as, if not more, than the current model
Release date of Surface Studio 2
Original Surface Studio was launched at the end of 2016, so the competitor iMac Microsoft must be updated given the general cadence of the company for Surface products that are not Surface Pro.
However, we really have not heard anything about the sequel to Surface Studio. All we have to do is a Windows Central report that cites sources that say that & # 39; Surface Studio 2 is ready & # 39; As such, the point of sale expects to see the device & # 39; in the fall & # 39;
This is equivalent to any time between September and November for a possible version of Surface Studio 2. Until more leaks and concrete rumors arrive, this is the expectation that we will have to stick to.
Price of Surface Studio 2
Unfortunately, there is still less knowledge about the possible prices of Surface Studio 2, that is, absolutely nothing. So, all we can expect from the potential price of the device so far is that it stays close to the previous model.
Currently, Surface Studio costs between $ 2,999 (£ 2,999, AU $ 4,699) and $ 4,199 (£ 4,249, AU $ 6,599). For Microsoft to go further, that price could be an opportunity, especially considering the price of its main competition, the Apple iMac line.
On the contrary, it's hard to expect Microsoft to drive the price much lower than it is now, either because the original Surface Studio saw an impressive demand at its current price point during the launch. Stay tuned to this space as more rumors and leaks come to light.
What we want to see in Surface Studio 2
As impressed as we were, and still are, by Surface Studio, much has progressed in the almost two years since its launch, and there is always room of improvement. This is what we hope will come true in Surface Studio 2:
More powerful components
This is an easy fruit to get, no doubt, but we could have made this wish list when the Studio surface was released for the first time, since it lacked hardware. This time, a desktop processor is almost essential, as are the updated graphics: an Intel CPU from Coffee Lake and mobile graphics from the series Nvidia Turing would certainly do trick. In addition, a suitable SSD would be considered a great help for creatives.
An even sharper screen
The current Surface Studio screen is absolutely magnificent, with a resolution of 4,500 x 3,000 pixels in the sRGB, DCI-P3 and Vivid color spaces. But there is no reason why I can not go further. Watching a 5K Surface Studio compete directly with the more expensive iMac would be tremendously exciting for content creators.
Connectivity Thunderbolt 3
As versatile as Thunderbolt 2 DisplayPort is in the current Surface Studio, it's time for Microsoft to collectively pass Thunderbolt 3 via USB-C. Not only does it offer more performance for file transfers, but it could also serve as a single hub for all the displays and other peripherals you want to connect. If Surface Studio 2 is truly competitive, it must respect this growing standard for the target audience.
All accessories included
For what you are charging for the current, and charged for the future, Surface Studio, Microsoft should include all the essential accessories in the box. Yes, that includes the incredible Surface Dial along with the Surface Mouse and keyboard. It is just for a purchase of several large ones.
