Annihilation

If I have seen the previous sci-fi masterpiece by writer and director Alex Garland, Ex Machina, you will know that a wild ride with his follow-up, Annihilation, awaits you. Based on the highly regarded novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation follows a group of women who undertook an expedition to an environmental disaster zone where the laws of nature do not apply. Natalie Portman leads the group as a biologist in search of her missing husband, and joins her Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and more. Although the film just came out in theaters in the United States, Australia is lucky to be one of the countries that get the movie on Netflix right away. Equally bright and terrifying, Annihilation has all the characteristics of a modern science fiction classic.

Rogue One: A Star Wars story

Rogue One [19659006] As the first Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One had some pretty high expectations to be at the height. Instead of trying to reproduce the formula that made The Force Awakens so resoundingly successful, director Gareth Edwards presented his own war movie, one that had more in common with Saving Private Ryan than The Empire Strikes Back. Do you remember in A New Hope when the Rebellion had in its hands the plans of the Death Star that would lead to victory at the end of that movie? Rogue One is about the group that stole those plans. Yes, it's a Star Wars prequel movie, but do not worry, there's no Jar Jar Binks in sight.

Edge of Tomorrow

  Edge of Tomorrow

A terrifying science fiction war movie starring Tom Cruise, Edge of Tomorrow plays like a crossing between Halo and Groundhog Day, where the Cruiser launches directly into an alien war only to die almost immediately and then forces him to repeat the day over and over again, becoming a bit harder to battle each time. Next to him is Emily Blunt, playing a tough soldier who helps Cruise find a way to close this endless cycle of time and end the war forever. Backed by an excellent script and good chemistry between Cruise and Blunt, Edge of Tomorrow is a great special effects show that should please both science fiction fans and action.
