I love smart and connected gardeners because I can not keep a living being alive, but they also seem to keep failing. Parrot tried a smart pot with his Parrot Pot, which was discontinued. Another company, Edyn, launched a successful Kickstarter campaign and later a partnership with Home Depot, but now it seems to be struggling. Even so, companies want to keep trying to make smart planters. Click & Grow sells a group of different interior planters with timed lights and water tanks. Oh, and of course, patented floor pods for users to plant. Remember this Circuit Breaker Live show?
Now, a company called Grow has announced its first product, Grow Duo. It is a large pot for outdoor use that comes with a complementary iOS / Android application, a humidity sensor for the floor, temperature sensors for the floor and outdoor air, and a light sensor for the sun. It connects to the hose of a user, so there is no need to water the plants; your automatic sprinklers take care of that. You can use your own seeds, although the company also sells "seed leaves" that eventually disintegrate. I accompanied Paul and Nilay through a full demo at Circuit Breaker Live this week, so look up for more information. I love the idea of the Grow Duo; I just hope you succeed in a business that has not been successful before.
