The Tumblr application was ripped from the iOS app store a few days ago due to a problem with child pornography that exceeded the application's filtering technology, according to a CNET report, which Tumblr confirmed.
the disappearance was first detected on November 16, and Tumblr's help documentation also confirmed that the company was "working to resolve a problem with its iOS application." The statement said that Tumblr expected it to fully function again soon.
However, neither Tumblr nor Apple had said what the problem was until CNET confirmed through the sources that it was related to child pornography.
Tumblr then issued a statement explaining that it discovered content during an audit that was not included in the industry database it was using to filter our child sexual abuse material will appear in its application.
That statement reads as follows:
"We are committed to helping create a safe online environment for all users, and have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to media that present child sexual abuse and exploitation. that this is an industry-wide problem, we work collaboratively with our colleagues and industry partners like [the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children] (NCMEC) to actively monitor the content uploaded to the platform, every image loaded on Tumblr is scanned into a database of the industry known material of child sexual abuse, and the images that are detected never reach the platform.A routine audit discovered content on our platform that had not yet been included in the industry database. We immediately removed this Content safeguards are a challenging aspect of scale-based operating platforms, and we are continuously evaluating the additional steps that we can take to improve and there is no higher priority for our team. "
As of 11/19/18, 7:45 pm EST, the Tumblr help page says that the company is working to restore its application to the App Store. It also included the previous statement.
The company has had problems with blocking outside the US UU In the past to host material for adults, but this is the first time that it is removed from the App Store due to child pornography. [19659002] The problem is an example of relying on a database, rather than a combination of algorithms, AI Technology and human moderation to manage content filtering.
