Sherlock Martin Freeman has been chosen to star in the ITV crime drama A Confession.
The true story drama of writer Jeff Pope tells the story of a detective who violated the police procedure to catch a murderer. The six-part drama was presented on Monday by ITV drama director Polly Hill and will be co-produced by ITV Studios and Urban Myth Films.
The Emmy and BAFTA-winning actor is joined by Oscar-nominated actress and BAFTA-winning actress Imelda Staunton.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, A Confession is based on the real-life event of the disappearance of a 22-year-old girl in March 2011 and will follow Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher. who deliberately violated the procedure and the police protocol to capture a murderer, a decision that ultimately cost him his career and reputation.
"I discovered that this is a fascinating story to tell on several levels," the Pope said. "On the one hand, it's a brilliant detective job, but to find both girls, Fulcher felt he had to deny Halliwell his rights. As a suspect, he questions how we want our police to behave when someone disappears. "Should Fulcher have been praised as a brave officer fighting for the life of a girl, or lose his career in handling the law?"
