Sony confirms next-generation PlayStation console

Sony has confirmed that it is developing a next generation PlayStation console to succeed the PlayStation 4.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Sony president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said: "At this point, what we can say if it is necessary to have a next generation hardware ".

Kenichiro did not confirm if this console will be called PlayStation 5 or when it will be released. However, some industry analysts predict that we could see the next generation console in 2020 or 2021 – while others predict it could be as early as Christmas 2019.

The CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment John Kodera already confirmed that the PlayStation 4 is reaching the end of its life cycle, so the confirmation of a next-generation PlayStation is not surprising.

Depending on when the new console was released, the new console could go head-to-head with the next Xbox, whose code name is Xbox Scarlett, which is rumored to be V9 arri in 2020.
