Release date for Elder Scrolls 6: when can I play?

Well you could get the bad news out of the way first – you're not likely to play The Elder Scrolls 6 any time soon. The good news, however, is that it has been confirmed that he will be able to … eventually .

The game was confirmed during the E3 2018 conference in Bethesda, but nothing more than a logo was provided. We do not even have a subtitle or a launch year. Todd Howard said the game will come after Starfield, the company's next big IP. That means that Elder Scrolls 6 could be years away.

Elder Scrolls 6 trailer: when can I see it?

The only footage we have of Elder Scrolls 6 is a very short clip of the game's logo. Apart from that, you may be waiting for a while to see more. We believe that E3 2019 is a safe bet. Or maybe it escapes beforehand.

Here is the trailer announcement:

Elder Scrolls 6: what do we know so far?

Bethesda is a busy studio: it's not just working on an IP novelty, it's also continuing to develop for Elder Scrolls Online and is taking on the long-standing commitment of Fallout 76. And that's only in its major role franchises. It still has a lot to do in other places with mobile games, Dishonored, Prey and others.

Thanks to Todd Howard, we know that Bethesda is working on two new titles at the same time, although its developments are staggered.

Now we know that one of them must be Elder Scrolls 6.

After returning to Skyrim after a long time away, Howard compared it to seeing an old friend from high school, and added that free time he had given the opportunity to see Skyrim as a player for the first time.

This, for us, would be the perfect moment to start applying this new perspective to the next title of the series.

At least we can say that we know that it will not be called Elder Scrolls 6. There will be two points and another word to round the title if there are previous versions.

Where will it be fixed?

We are also willing to bet that, like all other games in the series, it will be located on the continent of Tamriel, whose map is below.

Previous games have taken us to Highrock, Hammerfell, Morrowind, Cyrodil and Skyrim. Valenwood, Elsweyr and Black Marsh are the biggest places yet to be explored. Although there is still much to explore from Morrowind, we imagine that much of that will be covered in the next Elder Scrolls Online title.

Then, Valenwood, Elsweyr or Black Marsh. What seems more likely? Online rumors point heavily towards Black Marsh, the home of the argonous reptilian race of the world.

There is no solid reason for this rumor, but its swampy marshes and its network of islands would create an interesting geographical change for the series, although it is a geography that would open to comparison with the Witcher 3. It is probably the region of Tamriel of which we know less, so Bethesda would have a lot of space to be creative.

That said, Elsweyr would also be an interesting geography change with its dry plains and harsh wastelands that the Khajit calls home.

It would be nice to know more about the culture of the Khajit or the Argonians, so these two extremely different environments have an understandable appeal for fans.

However, there is weight in the rumor that the Elder Scrolls 6 could be established in Valenwood. Valenwood is the home of the Bosmer and it is an area of Tamriel that Bethesda has not explored much.

The rumor that the game will be established here is based on an internal internal memo of Bethesda for the entire year 2014. In this memo, it was reported that Bethesda employees did not want to use the terms Fallout: Nuka World, Elder Scrolls VI or Greenheart Project.

Although initially believed to be fake, Fallout: Nuka World ended up being a great DLC release for Fallout 4, which adds a bit more weight to the rumor that the Greenheart Project is, in fact, the code name for The following Elder Scrolls title. The fact that Greenheart is a city in the green Valenwood region makes it even more interesting.

Forest and jungle scenarios are hard to find in games and it would be really interesting to see Bethesda being creative with the part of Tamriel that is said to have rejected civilization and embraced the desert.

It's hard to tell from the short E3 clip we have of the game, but our first impression is that the game world is much more like Valenwood or Elsweyr than Black Marsh.

In an interview with Eurogamer Todd Howard confirmed that the team had settled on the location, but did not tell us where.

What characteristics can we expect?

Homebuilding

One feature that we are pretty sure will be included in the game to a certain extent is the construction of houses or the creation of cities. Skyrim introduced the idea of designing and maintaining a farm with his Hearthfire DLC, which Fallout 4 expanded with the introduction of its settlement mechanics and the online Elder Scrolls built again with its Homestead DLC. This clearly leads to further expansion of such features in the next Elder Scrolls title, since he did not feel completely finished in Fallout.

It would be a feature that would really fit particularly well with the Valenwood environment, if it meant that the player adapted to the wildlife in the same way that the resident Bosmer does with his cities in the treetops. In a similar way, the player used debris and garbage to create their settlement in Fallout, they could use their natural environment to do it in Elder Scrolls in a good contrast.

A completely new story

In a recent interview with Gamespot, Todd Howard said that Bethesda is investigating exactly how he tells stories in his games.

Howard noted that Skyrim and Fallout 4 adopt slightly different approaches to the stories, with Skyrim leaving things more open to the player's vision and Fallout guiding them more firmly through a story

Now he says the studio is seeking "to tell a better story in an open world". He said "each of our games has had successes and failures and if you ask us internally, we have new ideas that we want to explore in the future because we believe that we have not yet deciphered them in the way we think it could be."

Knowing the differences between the Skyrim and Fallout approaches to storytelling and the fact that both have positive and negative aspects suggests that the next Elder Scrolls title could achieve some kind of balance between giving the player complete dominance free and tell a story about your character.

It's hard to deny that The Witcher 3 has had a massive impact on what players expect in terms of including an engaging story in an open-world game.

Although we in no way want Bethesda to only generate a copy of Witcher (we're not sure it's possible anyway) it does exert some pressure on Bethesda when it comes to achieving high environmental quality and mission-based stories .

However, something we do not expect to see is the multiplayer. Skyrim certainly does not suffer from the lack of multiplayer and it would not make much sense to incorporate a multiplayer online game with The Elder Scrolls Online still running.

Virtual Reality

It is not a certainty at all, but the fact that Bethesda has launched a full VR experience for Skyrim means that it is not out of the question.

What would we like? see?

Well, something we would like to see and hope to see is improved graphics and less hassle. The remastered version of Skyrim showed how far things have come visually from the first release of the game, so we expect any title after him to be that level, if not much higher, depending on how far the game is.

In fact, there is a good chance that the game can be created with a completely new game engine. After we've created a completely new engine for Skyrim, we do not think Bethesda is likely to do the same with Elder Scrolls 6 and the fallout sequels.

The study of Bethesda games in Montreal is looking to hire an engine programmer so it is worth seeing this space.
