Razer is updating its Core line of external GPU cabinets today, introducing a new Core X model and adding support for Apple's MacBook Pro laptops with Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Core X is designed as a new model of entry for Razer's external GPU line, which costs only $ 299 (unlike the $ 499 price tag of the Core V2), although it loses some of the more advanced features of the Core V2 such as USB and Ethernet ports and Chroma lighting of Razer. That said, the Core X offers some improvements over the Core V2, with a 100W step load over Thunderbolt, an integrated 650W power supply (versus the 500W of the V2) and support for 3 larger slot GPUs ( compared to the 2.2- Size of the GPU in V2)
Core X (and Core V2) also work with Apple's MacOS computers, plus of Windows 10 previously offered support, although Razer says he will need to run High Sierra 10.13.4 or higher and use a Mac-compatible AMD Radeon card. It's worth noting that Nvidia manufactures official drivers for many of their Mac cards that they might work even without operating system level support like AMD, but their performance may vary and Razer, at least on paper, only recommends AMD using GPU for Mac with their cabinets.
Core X is available today on the Razer website for $ 299, although like the previous Core and Core V2, you must provide your own graphics card.
