God of War’s goofy new photo mode is a lot of fun

I always found built-in photography modes for intimidating games, just like a high-end DSLR camera. I do not know anything about perspective or lighting, and playing with all these various aspects of the video game screenshot is just not very fun. People can make incredible photos with these tools, but I, unfortunately, am not one of them. All I really want to do is make Kratos smile, fortunately that is now an option.

A few weeks after the new God of War released for the first time on the PlayStation 4, Sony has updated the game with a great photo mode requested. And it's quite powerful, which allows you to change the camera and modify various aspects of the image to create something interesting. For me, however, the most exciting feature is the ability to change Kratos facial expression to make the dumbest image possible. It can make you look apprehensive, or excited, or just really uncomfortably happy. As you can see, paddling in a boat is hard work:

God of War is not really the first PS4 game to offer this feature. The Uncharted derivative The Lost Legacy similarly allows you to alter facial expressions, and the adventure of the open world Horizon Zero Dawn went one step further by offering Multiple poses for the hero Aloy. The world could be dominated by killer robots, but that does not mean that Aloy can not relax on the grass for a moment, deep in thought.

picture of God of War mode is especially fun due to the contrast. Kratos is defined almost entirely by anger; Sure, it softened on the restart, but he's still an angry guy who never smiles. But now you can make him smile in almost any scenario imaginable. You can even adjust the facial expression of Atreus, the son of Kratos, although I still have to find a scene where I can capture them by being silly together.

It's an especially good tool once you've finished the game, and I just want to wander the world, absorbing the bits of Nordic mythology you missed. Add humor to the moments you've already experienced many, many times. Because as funny as Kratos's magic ax is, even he is beginning to wonder how much he has to turn around.
