Apple will follow Amazon's path this year and offer its customers the ability to subscribe to the popular broadcast service from their television application, according to a new report from Bloomberg . Normally, consumers must download and subscribe to services such as Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Now, Showtime and others individually. But just as Amazon has done with its Prime Video Channel subscriptions, Apple aims to centralize those options and make its TV application the place that iOS and Apple TV owners visit to subscribe.
The television application already acts as a center where users can search and browse universally through programs and films of numerous services; Once they have chosen something, the associated transmission application opens and immediately begins to play.
Bloomberg does not specify which companies Apple is talking about or who it plans to partner with. Amazon's main video channels include HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, CBS All Access and a group of smaller, specialized services. It is a good convenience for Prime customers, but many people still subscribe in the traditional way with each application separately. But offering subscriptions would be another way for Apple's services division to bring more money. This could be an announcement that Apple will make in its opening speech to the WWDC next month when it reveals the next versions of iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS.
