The biggest movie and game of the moment is about to collide. Today, Epic Games unveiled a new limited-time event in its battle royale game Fortnite that will feature Avengers: Infinity Wa r baddie Thanos. The crossover will come in the form of a new mode, creatively called "Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup", where players can pick up Infinity Stones spread across the map to become Thanos, and thus gain a significant power boost.
According to Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, the couple are big fans of the game, and they often sneak into the rounds of Fortnite while they were editing the movie. This, in turn, led to the idea of a mashup. "Out of the blue, I got this call from Joe, and after analyzing a little of each other's work, we started thinking about crazy ideas," said Epic creative director Donald Mustard Entertainment Weekly . "It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super-authentic for Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War and something that fans of both would be excited about."
The new mode will be available for free on all platforms starting tomorrow, although it is not clear exactly how long it will last. But it fits well with the fourth season released recently from Fortnite that introduced a new superhero theme with a massive meteor attack that drastically changed the game.
