AMD Ryzen Threadripper release date, news and features: everything you need to know

Last year, AMD launched its line of Ryzen processors, but it did not stop there. Later, in August of 2017, AMD released three incredibly overclockable top-end CPUs, called "Threadripper".

However, AMD is not content with just launching the fastest processor we've used. We've seen leaks that Threadripper Generation 2 CPUs are on their way later this year, and while they may not offer higher counting counts, we'll probably see higher clock speeds and lower latency than with second-generation Ryzen.

AMD also suggested that the miners use Threadripper processors for the cryptocurrency, to save money on future updates, this is due to the incredible power of Threadripper.

So without further ado, here is all we know about the AMD Ryzen Threadripper line, including launch date, price evaluation and other bits of information.

Cut to the hunt

  • What is it? AMD is super powerful 8-, 12- and 16-core processors
  • When does it come out? Available as of August 10, 2017
  • How much will it cost? Begins at $ 549 (approximately £ 420, AU $ 690)

AMD Ryzen Threadripper release date

AMD Ryzen Threadripper first two processors on 1950X and 19 20X arrived on August 10, 2017. While that the entry level of AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X came out a few weeks later on August 31, 2017.

We are still waiting for news about the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900, 1920 and 1950 chips, but since its existence has only been filtered to Through the motherboard manufacturers, it is difficult to get a specific release date, assuming it is ever released.

It does not end there, since AMD plans to back its Threadripper line. CPU with new releases until at least 2020, according to some leaks.

AMD Ryzen 9 Price Threadripper

Finally, now we have firm details on what price will launch the AMD Ryzen 9 Threadrippers. They are not cheap, but you can expect to pay less for more performance than you would with a similar Intel chip.

While the 16-core 1950X Ryzen Threadripper has a cost of $ 999 (around £ 770, AU $ 1,295), the Threadripper 1920X will have 12 cores and sells for $ 799 (around £ 615, AU $ 1.035). Finally, the Threadripper 1900X comes with a price of $ 549 (approximately £ 420, AU $ 690).

Meanwhile, Intel's closest competitor to the 1950X, the Core i9-7960X, returns users a total of $ 1,699 (around £ 1,315, AU $ 2,200) while the 12-core i9-7920X costs $ 1,189 (around £ 920, AU $ 1,500). The closest octa-core competitor of Intel's Threadripper 1900X is the Core i7-7820X that sells for $ 599 (£ 529, AU $ 869).

Specifications and power of AMD Ryzen Threadripper

We officially know that the AMD Ryzen 9 Threadripper series presents "up to 16 cores and 32 threads", with the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X as poster of these specifications. The 1920X, on the other hand, is limited to 12 cores and 24 threads. Finally, the 1900X serves up to 8 cores and 16 threads.

As to how fast those cores will run, the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X can be found operating on a 3.4GHz base clock and a 4.0GHz pulse clock. At the same time, the Threadripper 1920X runs on a 3.5 / 4.0GHz base / boost clock. Finally, the 1900X works with a 3.8 / 4.0GHz base / boost clock.

To put this in perspective, the Intel Core i9-7960X has the same 32 threads and 16 cores as the Threadripper 1950X, and so on. forward with the Intel Core i9-7920X versus Threadripper 1920X and Intel Core i7-7820X versus Threadripper 1900X that we have configured.

Then there are the XFR without AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900, 1920 and 1950. First, the 1900 will run at 3.1 / 3.7GHz base / boost clock speeds while the 1920 will run at 3.2 / 3.8GHz. Although the 1950 impulse rates have not yet surfaced, this chip will operate at a base clock speed of 3.2GHz. All of these contain the same number of cores as the 1900X, 1920X and 1950X.

The Threadripper series will use AMD (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) technology from AMD found in other Ryzen chips. Finally, the processors of the Ryzen Threadripper series will use a TP3 socket, which is a modified variant of the SP3 socket originally designed for AMD's powerful server chips.
