Ben Roethlisberger is not in the business of preparing young quarterbacks.
He told reporters on Tuesday he wants to play another three or five years, health permits, and third-round pick 2018 Mason Rudolph will wait a while before taking over as Pittsburgh starting quarterback.
"If he's going to be your guy, that's great, but in my perfect world it's not going to be for a while," Roethlisberger said, through the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Roethlisberger, 36, has been a bit of health in his career, never playing less than 12 games in a season, and said that if things go on like this, he plans to run the offense for most of the next decade.
"I went and spoke with Art [Rooney II] and coach [Mike Tomlin] and coach Randy [Fichtner] and basically said:" Listen, I can not control, except for serious injuries, except for things at home and things outside of your control, how my body feels. "The way our O-line is built, no matter how good they are, kept me healthy for the past few years, I really feel like I can play this game for another three or five years."
"I'll do it, I still take it a year at a time and I give it everything I have that year, but that's what I felt comfortable telling them."
