Pop Camera is an application that turns your camera into an old-school toy camera without the clumsiness of buying that camera or worrying about the movie. The application has been around for a few years, but I've just begun to discover how much fun it can be to shoot. The application allows you to take pictures using different modes that reproduce effects of cheap cameras that produce random imperfections such as light leaks, vignettes and oversaturation in photographs.
This application simulates that and allows you to access a variety of shot sequences, including a camera with two shots, four shots, 12 shots and 16 shots (which takes sequential shots and combines them into one image) along with around 20 movies, and there are more available to buy. You can also choose between square or rectangular formats and double exposure options.
When you take a picture, the camera appears with two dots or the number of shots you have selected in the camera, and they light to indicate the shots while they are taken. Once you touch the shutter button, the camera starts taking the pictures. Depending on whether you select a single-shot or multi-shot camera, you can get a variety of results since you can not control the shutters once you start it. For multiple shots, photos produced from the application are placed sequentially. It is an unusual way of filming live events or other creative takes, such as sets of the day.
Filters and sequences are applied after taking the picture, so you do not know what the final image will look like when you take it, which makes you think about the frame and other aspects before touching the shutter button. It is a good contrast to the traditional taking of a photo on a digital camera or a normal camera application. The application also gives you more customization options such as adding a time stamp, photo frames and buying additional film and camera filters.
The base package is quite complete, so it's worth $ 1.99 if you enjoy the effects of the toys. The application is now available in the iTunes App Store.
