The days when you had to buy a dedicated gaming platform and spend a lot of cash for a quality gaming experience have disappeared. Thanks to the iPhone (and the iPod touch) and the App Store, you can get an excellent mobile gaming experience for just a few dollars (or quid, for that matter), or even less.
In fact, many of the games out there are free. But can you get great games for nothing, or the "free" section of the App Store is just a shoddy excuse to bombard it with in-app purchases?
The answer is, of course, both. The trick is to find the gems among the slags, and what follows are our selections: our best free iPhone games, presented in no particular order, including the long-established classics and the latest generation releases. We've even included a virtual reality game for you … are not you lucky?
New this week: Disco Drivin & # 39; 2
Disco Drivin & # 39; 2 is a turn-based racing game. That might not make sense on paper, but it translates well on the screen, effectively making up yew with high-tech levitation tracks full of rugs, gaps and speed traps.
You can play alone, facing a daily challenge or participating in speed races. The last option is ideal to know the tracks, something essential when you battle with other players online. Then you exchange movements: bite-sized pieces of the game in which you pass your disk through the circuit, in races that can last several days.
There are freemium shenanigans going on, mainly for cards that unlock new disk powers, and the camera can be frustrating, although if you're facing the wrong way, you should probably resolve to learn the design of that track a little better. Leaving those little doubts aside, this is an attractive and entertaining racing game that rewards prolonged play.
