Back in February, Canary's smart home cameras gained the ability to detect people and send automatic notifications that specified that a person had been seen in the recorded clip (unlike your pet, for example). Today, the company is launching a new update that will allow users to choose if they want Canary cameras to notify them or even bother recording events that do not include a person in the frame.
You can configure your Canary to record all the movement, only people or not. When I am away from my apartment, I am generally in favor of recording any movement just to be sure. But I am setting up movement alerts for "people only" as soon as this update is finished, so I will stop receiving alerts whenever our pugs are just walking around doing dog things during the day. After the February update, the notifications already mentioned each time a person was detected, but now you can tell Canary not to bother you with any other movement captured by the cameras.
Refined detection and more granular notification controls are available to all user Canaries (both free and by subscription).
