Facebook is testing a way to let people watch video premieres in Facebook Live

Although the possibility of publishing pre-recorded videos on Facebook Live has been an option for some time, it requires the use of third party programs such as OBS and Wirecast. Now, Facebook is testing a feature called Premieres, which will allow creators to post videos already made on Facebook Live, as reported today Engadget .

Although there is still not much information about the releases, it seems to be content oriented, such as movie trailers, Facebook Watch programs and music videos, and would include Facebook Live features such as chat. Basically, it's a way for publishers to bring to Facebook the experience of a television premiere or a movie trailer, which allows people to experience a new video together in real time. "We are testing this now with a group of diverse video creators, publishers and programs," says Fidji Simo of Facebook Deadline . "And we're going to extend this more widely soon."

The ability to natively publish prerecorded content would certainly make sense for Facebook, which has been expanding its stable series of originals. Facebook recently ordered a dramedy series starring Avengers: Infinity War star Elizabeth Olsen, as well as a 10-episode fairy tale horror series called Sacred Lies . It was reported that the company plans to spend up to $ 1 billion on original TV in 2018. The Verge has communicated with Facebook to comment on how exactly Premieres differs from existing tools that allow creators to post pre-recorded videos to your live platform
