New Snap Spectacles confirmed by FCC

The existence of at least one new pair of portable eyeglass sunglasses for Snapchat has been confirmed by the FCC's radiation cameras. Documents published today, and first discovered in Variety describe a "portable video camera" manufactured by Snap Inc. under the trademark "Spectacles" and "Model 002" printed on the packaging label. Although most of the documents that accompany the presentation are hidden under a request for confidentiality, a small excavation reveals compatibility with Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2 (BLE).

Last month, Cheddar reported two upcoming versions of Spectacles: a second-generation model for 2018 with improved performance and bug fixes, and a third-generation wearable for 2019 with two cameras, GPS and a price of up to $ 300. The FCC submission would suggest that we are looking at the second generation model that is capable of faster file transfers.

The original Spectacles was launched in 2016 with a very successful marketing campaign that resulted in long lines and a market Gray where sellers could demand a considerable premium in addition to the suggested retail price of $ 130. However, advertising soon faded, with the company eating around $ 40 million in unsold inventory.

Remember, finding a product in the FCC database does not guarantee that it will go on sale (although it is a good indicator of intent). Receiving approving marks to suggest that the wireless technologies of your product will not hide the brain is one thing, having the guts to sell the new shows after the original fiasco is something totally different.
