Huawei’s P20 Pro has more optical image stabilization than we thought

The Huawei P20 Pro is making its way into the world, which means it's time to dismantle iFixit and see what makes Huawei the ultimate flagship. Although most of it is quite standard, there are some surprises, including the fact that the configuration of the triple lens camera has a more optical image stabilization than we originally thought.

According to Huawei, only the 8-megapixel telephoto lens officially has OIS hardware, but, as seen in the disassembly, the three lenses appear to have the stabilization hardware on board, which is a good advantage. It is a bit strange that Huawei, which promotes the camera as one of the main innovations of the P20 Pro, is selling its camera at lower prices, since it seems to have all the hardware in place.

One possible explanation is that Huawei is looking to talk about the various software improvements it has implemented to improve the quality of the camera that says it makes the physical OIS unnecessary, like its Image Stabilization feature AI. But if the P20 Pro has hardware stabilization, it makes the argument that the Huawei software is a replacement a bit fake.
