Oppo Digital, the 14-year-old American brand known for its high-end audio equipment and record players, says it has started closing its business. From April 2, Oppo Digital says that it will "gradually" stop making products such as PM3 headphones and DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD players. Oppo Digital is a separate company from Oppo, the phone manufacturer, which is not affected by today's announcement.
Customers who have existing equipment can still obtain technical support, even for items inside and outside warranty. Those who purchased an Oppo Digital product in the last 30 days are eligible for a refund. Oppo said it would continue to sell products on its website and through authorized resellers until stocks run out.

Oppo did not say why it is closing its audio and record player business, although it is likely due to consumers avoiding physical media in favor of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and HBO. "From now on, OPPO Digital will focus its main effort on organizing and ensuring long-term support for the existing generation of products," the company said in a statement. "As such, we will not have the resources to develop and launch new generations of products."
