A few weeks ago, I saw God Help the Girl the 2014 musical of Belle and Sebastian, leader of the band, Stuart Murdoch. The film does not have especially good reviews, but it's something I've wanted to see for a while. I had listened to the album on which it is based years before the film came out, and I find it difficult to refuse the offer of a musical super-twee with the aesthetics of Belle and Sebastian.
The criticism of the shortcomings of the film is not bad, and I will not say that it is the compelling and colorful fairy tale that I expected it to be. Instead, it looks more like a series of music videos linked by a simple love story; There is a real strength in how light and carefree the narration of the film is. That limits it in some way, but it also makes watching it often feel as cheerful as listening to some of Belle and Sebastian's music.
I'm not a big music fan, so maybe it was never really for me. But I still have hopes for a more colorful and stylized poppier in a Belle and Sebastian musical. The ingredients are all there.
Check out 11 trailers this week below.
Agree. Only . Trailer two. How are they all now? Would you say … slightly better? This is the problem that I still have: Han does not say much in this advance, and what he says is not very convincing. While, for example, Lando is immensely charismatic. Of course, it's easier to achieve that kind of charm that steals scenes when you're not the main character (see: Han Solo in all the other films), but achieving that balance for Han was always the challenge faced by the creators of Only . The movie will be released on May 25.
There is a new trailer for Incredibles 2 this week, and it continues to show how it is going to be a movie about superheroes as well as the raising of children and all the challenges, the joy and humor that accompany it. Of course, given the first Incredibles it's not surprising that this movie seems special. It leaves on June 15.
Ocean & # 39; s 8
Here is the last trailer of Ocean & # 39; s 8 and, like the other Ocean & # 39; s is pure energy and fun. The revived film series returns with a brilliant cast, and it seems to follow the same formula that the last three had a great effect. It leaves on June 8.
Netflix presents a new documentary that analyzes the 13 female pilots who passed the space flight tests at the same time that the first men planned to go into space. While the 13 pilots never made it to the space, their stories tell of the difficult and overlooked work that the women contributed to the US space program. UU It leaves on April 20.
Hot summer nights
What starts out looking like another movie about a clumsy character of Timothée Chalamet (who, for the record, would see a lot), becomes a lot wilder after the protagonist starts selling grass and try to do it big. So far, Hot Summer Nights seems like a great combination of awkward teen comedy with a pulpy crime story. It leaves on July 27.
The only action movies I like to watch are immensely exaggerated starring Jason Statham. This movie is about a huge shark. It's starring Jason Statham, and he knows how ridiculous he is. I'm definitely inside. Sale August 10.
The latest FX series by Ryan Murphy is Pose a great show about the culture of the ball and the 1980s in New York. The program has already appeared in the headlines of the five transgender actors in regular roles in the series, the most in a scripted program, which makes sense given the story in which it focuses. The show seems to be a really interesting mix between the fake documentary and a more traditional drama. It starts on June 3.
Three identical strangers
After premiering at Sundance earlier this year, this incredible documentary is now directed to the theaters: these are identical triplets that were separated at birth and found later in life. But it turns out that their separation had to be kept secret as part of a clearly unethical psychology experiment. And they were not the only separated twins. It leaves June 29.
Picnic in Hanging Rock
Amazon has a new limited series that reimagines and remakes the 1967 novel Picnic in Hanging Rock about three girls who disappeared while on a class trip in 1900 Australia. It looks quite amazing visually and seems to echo recent dystopian films, despite its more solid history. Sale May 25.
Girls The star Zosia Mamet is one of the names behind Fabled a new series that is supposed to reimagine classic fairy tales from a feminist perspective. It's a great idea, although this first breakthrough only gives very basic clues as to how it might work, including the use of these stories to explore mental illness. It is not known when it will arrive, but an episode is supposed to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month.
What. In. Earth. It is this? James Franco co-directed this star-studded swindle of Mad Max filled with some tropes of questionable female characters. The co-stars of Snoop Dogg as a character named Love Lord.
See you next week.
