A few weeks ago, I saw God Help the Girl the 2014 musical of Belle and Sebastian, leader of the band, Stuart Murdoch. The film does not have especially good reviews, but it's something I've wanted to see for a while. I had listened to the album on which it is based years before the film came out, and I find it difficult to refuse the offer of a musical super-twee with the aesthetics of Belle and Sebastian.
The criticism of the shortcomings of the film is not bad, and I will not say that it is the compelling and colorful fairy tale that I expected it to be. Instead, it looks more like a series of music videos linked by a simple love story; There is a real strength in how light and carefree the narration of the film is. That limits it in some way, but it also makes watching it often feel as cheerful as listening to some of Belle and Sebastian's music.
I'm not a big music fan, so maybe it was never really for me. But I still have hopes for a more colorful and stylized poppier in a Belle and Sebastian musical. The ingredients are all there.

So far, Hot Summer Nights seems like a great combination of awkward teen comedy with a pulpy crime story. It leaves on July 27.

The only action movies I like to watch are immensely exaggerated starring Jason Statham. This movie is about a huge shark. It's starring Jason Statham, and he knows how ridiculous he is. I'm definitely inside. Sale August 10.
Pose
The latest FX series by Ryan Murphy is Pose a great show about the culture of the ball and the 1980s in New York. The program has already appeared in the headlines of the five transgender actors in regular roles in the series, the most in a scripted program, which makes sense given the story in which it focuses. The show seems to be a really interesting mix between the fake documentary and a more traditional drama. It starts on June 3.

After premiering at Sundance earlier this year, this incredible documentary is now directed to the theaters: these are identical triplets that were separated at birth and found later in life.
